m.a.c. Pilates for Kids in Lincoln Park

We’ve all heard of the alarming rise in childhood obesity, and to help counteract this growing trend of inactive and unfit children, Harmony Mind Body Fitness in Lincoln Park offers a special four week summer workshop called m.a.c. Pilates for Kids.

The m.a.c. Pilates for Kids workshop is designed for boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 10 and incorporates Pilates, games and improvisational exercise to build strength, confidence, and awareness.

Regular workouts with free weights or exercise machines can help children and teenagers boost their muscle strength, in some cases by as much as 40 percent, according to a German review of recent studies.

Although strength training was long thought to pose an injury risk for school-age children and adolescents, studies in recent years have shown there is actually no greater risk than with other types of exercise or sports -- and in some cases, less.
